Blogging for Business and marketing, why it’s a big deal

Updated: Aug 6, 2020

“But haven’t I got enough to do”? I hear you exclaim, and yes you probably have, running a business these days is a challenge, a challenge that takes time, sanity, resources and energy...

Why on earth would you want to commit to yet another time consuming, and to be honest, pretty tricky way to improve your business, writing can be a pain right? It isn’t for everyone, and if you’re at the helm of an SME, who on earth would you pick for the laborious task?

The simple fact is, blogging for business is a big deal these days, more than that; it can be the perfect way to engage with your site’s visitors, enhance your online reputation and, if done well consistently; can boost your business (and website traffic) to levels you didn’t dare hope for...

Heavier traffic, but in a good way

So you have a website, an online place you call home, but how do people find it? They could type your name directly into a search engine and congratulations, you’d be the top (and only) hit, but what about potential clients? They may search for your product or service and get a million suggestions, where might you be on that ladder? If you have a website that isn’t updated much (and most without blogs aren’t) your precious site will remain unseen.

A blog can help to solve that...

Every post you write adds another indexed page to your site, that equates to another opportunity for the world to find you, throw social media into the mix and you have the perfect opportunity to link to your shiny new topical article, driving more people to your site, improving your social reach and engaging directly with all those would be followers and potential clients.

Converting leads

So your shiny new blog post is getting hits, people are interested, now what? A well crafted blog post may just have a call to action at the end, some simple words of encouragement, a useful link containing a special offer or some other juicy morsel, place yourself in your customers shoes, what do they want? What questions do they have? What can you give them that others can’t or aren’t?

Authority

Imagine the impact of a blog on your site that focuses on, and answers questions your potential clients might have?

How might that make you seem to them?

If you post content that is consistently helpful to your audience, then you are well on your way to being an established authority, and that gains trust and more than a little respect. It also positions you higher than your competition, both in the hearts and minds of your visitors, and the search engine boffins who index the web.

The gift that keeps on giving

Your post has been written, posted and advertised via your social media channels, you got hits, even a few leads, and it’s done right, mission accomplished, time to sit back and feel smug?

You can feel even smugger, because your blog post isn’t done working for you just yet.

It is going to be indexed by search engines very soon, and for days, weeks and even years to come it will continue to work for you, generating hits while you’re away on holiday, taking that long weekend, or having that Sunday morning lie-in you promised yourself.

So...That’s why a blog is a good plan for your business and its marketing strategy going forward, if writing isn’t your thing, or everyone in the office pretends to be busy whenever you bring the subject up then get in touch with someone who knows how (and loves) to write them.

With a 500 word blog post costing just £25.00 no matter the subject, or how exotic the niche, it might be the best investment you’ve made in a long time.
